Dominican Republic with Sports Outreach - May 2025
You have an incredible life-changing opportunity to take part in a Movement vision trip in partnership with Sports Outreach.
This trip is for you if:
- You love sports and playing with kids
- Enjoy learning about new cultures and building intentional relationships
- You're willing to roll up your sleeves and help out with a construction
- You want to gain a fresh perspective on life and be encouraged and challenged in new ways
What you’ll do:
- Sports Clinics: Sports Outreach works with Baseball Coach, Jorge Bautista, who runs baseball clinics 5-days a week and has a game each Saturday in Jarabacoa. Dozens of kids attend these clinics daily, and most come from single-parent homes with small incomes. Although baseball is popular in the DR, it is expensive to play. Jorge offers free coaching and uses baseball as a way invest in young lives.
- Chess Club: Jorge originally served in the DR's capital, Santo Domingo. He still visits his old baseball players every three weeks and has also worked with other like-minded coaches who started a weekly Chess Club in Santo Domingo.
- Schools and local organizations: Jorge works with several other like-minded nonprofit leaders in the Jarabacoa community such as working with sexually exploited women, with a school for Haitians living in the DR, and YoungLife. On Sports Outreach trips to the DR, trip-takers typically spend time serving with these organizations.
About Dominican Republic and the ministry:
Sports Outreach is all about restoring hope and transforming lives. Their mission is to recruit, train, equip and deploy committed Christian leaders in the effective use of sports ministry for the purposes of sharing the Gospel and alleviating human suffering.
Jorge is from the Dominican Republic and has a passion to bring the Gospel to the kids in his own community. The community doesn’t have a lot of resources, and most baseball academies are expensive. There are many kids that want to play baseball, but their parents cannot afford it. Jorge, along with his wife, with the encouragement and support of Sports Outreach, plan to reach those kids by giving them free access to baseball training on the field, and teach them how to be disciples of Jesus off the field.
