Colombia with South America Mission - July 2024
You and your family have an opportunity to remind the people of Colombia, they are seen and loved by taking part in a Vision Trip with Movement this August.
This trip is for you if:
- You love interacting with young people and building intentional relationships.
- You enjoy rolling up your sleeves and helping out with cleaning or building projects
- You enjoy South American culture, speak Spanish, or would like to learn
- You want to grow and learn
About Colombia and the ministry:
Decades of armed conflict and political unrest have left Latin America’s social fabric in shreds. At-risk youth are falling through those cracks, especially those who grow up orphaned in institutions and exit state care at age 18.
Viva Youth is a Colombian faith-based NGO that has spent 15 years learning how to weave a thicker social fabric that can protect and develop the enormous potential of this youth whom they call Primos & Primas.
With everybody’s help, we effectively prevent and combat sex trafficking, incarceration, job exploitation, armed conflict recruitment, early pregnancy, abortion, loneliness, and despair.
About this Vision Trip:
- In Colombia, only 10% of children under state care are adopted by a family. The rest grow up in institutions.
- Youth who exit state care at age 18 have great potential but face immense vulnerabilities.
- Movement volunteers will help Viva Youth host a three-day-long Festival to raise awareness about Primos & Primas (youth who exit state care in Colombia).
- Volunteers will spend the first two days helping prepare food and setting up the space for vendors. During the Festival, volunteers will engage with Primos & Primas in activities such as sports and games, parenthood classes, life skills training, resume preparation, an audiovisual record of the activities, etc.
- Volunteers will also help usher in special Festival guests from churches, government and civic organizations, and employers, who will attend conferences and workshops led by Primos & Primas and Viva Youth staff.

Skills that come in handy:
- All things hospitality: Food prep, entertaining guests, taking contact info, photo booth, sports and games.
- Media: produce beautiful audiovisuals of the event to be used in following months and for future festivals.
- Carpentry, painting, sense of esthetics: to arrange the space for vendors and guests.
